Prizes

We are happy to announce that we will be running a student travel grant prize talk, in collaboration with Jeol and FocalPlane. These awards of £200 will be chosen on scientific merit, and the recipient will be allocated a prize talk alongside the money. In addition, the FocalPlane winner will write a short piece for the FocalPlane website, on a subject on their choice. These awards are open to all current PhD students.

Travel Bursaries

There are four early career travel bursaries available to assist early career researchers from the Scottish Microscopy Society attend the symposium. The bursaries each have a value of £100. Application forms for the travel bursaries will be available soon

Special Journal Issue

In 2022, the Microscopy Society of Ireland is again partnering with Cambridge Journals to offer conference delegates an exciting opportunity. Everyone selected for a talk or poster will be eligible to contribute to a special volume of Microscopy & Microanalysis describing their work. This is an excellent opportunity for student work especially to be published in this international journal.

These special volume papers will be full length, fully peer-reviewed manuscripts, receiving a DOI and volume like any other submission to the journal. In addition, many Irish universities already have agreements in place to publish Gold Open Access in this journal with no costs to the author.

In 2021, the MSI successfully ran a trial of this special volume concept with 6 full manuscripts submitted including many student works. We look forward to the 2022 meeting and our target of doubling this number and producing a full-volume for the conference.
